The United Nations General Assembly First Committee, also known as the Disarmament and International Security, deals with global challenges and threats to peace that affect the international community and seeks out solutions to the challenges in the international security regime. As any other General Assembly committee, DISEC’s first aim is to promote cooperative arrangements and measures and all Members of the United Nations are automatically eligible as representatives in the meetings. It is important to note that even though DISEC cannot mandate individual state action, sanctions, or armed intervention, it can recommend all of these actions to the United Nations Security Council.
This committee is suitable for both inexperienced and highly experienced delegates.
1. Maintaining the peace and security in the Gulf of Aden and Red Sea,
